Athens News Athens Municipality Improving Areas to Spruce Up City by GTP editing team 19 July 2022 written by GTP editing team 19 July 2022 1 comment Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 23 The Municipality of Athens is carrying out an ambitious revamp project in its 129 neighborhoods aiming to gradually transform the Greek capital into a modern, sustainable city with more free green spaces and modern infrastructure. According to an announcement, the municipality recently concluded two revamp projects in the area of Kato Patisia, at Pyrla Square and the Stratigos Daglis pedestrian street. At Pyrla square, the municipality’s crew replaced the concrete with special plates that reduce pavement surface temperature in the summer months; installed new, energy saving light bulbs in the streetlights; installed new benches; added new waste bins; and included wheelchair ramps for the easy access of people with disabilities. The municipality’s crew also restored the square’s existing vegetation and planted new trees and flowers where needed to give the neighborhood a more “green” appearance. Pyrla Square’s revamp was completed with the pedestrianization of part of Nikolaidou street. Next the municipality’s crew restored the nearby Stratigos Daglis pedestrian street, which now sports a new colored pavement made of cobblestones, upgraded urban infrastructure, modern benches and new plants. “Athens is changing little by little… The city is becoming better, offering its residents and visitors the opportunity to walk on clean sidewalks, enjoy the green color of nature, reside in modern neighborhoods featuring safe infrastructure,” Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis said in a statement. New revamp projects will soon take place in more neighborhoods of Athens, the mayor informed. My trip is planned Aug 26, 2022 I don’t know what to do at this point. Reporters say there are not enough fire fighters in and around Athens to stop the spread. Should I cancel my trip?
