Destinations news Beaches in Messolongi, Amfilochia, Astakos Now Accessible to People with Disabilities by GTP editing team 27 July 2022 written by GTP editing team 27 July 2022 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 23 The Region of Western Greece and the Regional Unit of Etoloakarnania have installed special SEATRAC mobility ramps at beaches in Messolongi, Amfilochia and Astakos, offering unassisted sea access to people with disabilities and mobility issues. Running on solar panels, the SEATRAC access ramps include rails with an attached seat that enables people with physical disabilities to enter the water without the help of escorts. Local authorities have also created a special corridor facilitating wheelchair access. “It is our obligation to facilitate our fellow citizens who face mobility problems by making their life easier. Access to the sea should be part of their everyday lives and it is now possible with the use of these machines,” Etoloakarnania Deputy Governor Maria Salma said. During the last few years, more and more beaches are getting accessible amenities in Greece. SEATRAC ramps have been installed in coastal areas in Attica (Glyfada, Anavyssos, Lagonissi) as well as on the popular islands of Corfu, Santorini and Syros, and more recently in Kalamata.
