Greek passenger shipping company ANEK Lines last week held its 19th blood donation drive at its headquarters in Chania on the island of Crete.

Organized in collaboration with the Chania Voluntary Blood Donor Association “Agios Ioannis” and the General Hospital of Chania, the initiative involved citizens and members of the company’s management and staff.

Under the motto #miaomada (one team), the volunteers “contributed in their own unique way to our efforts to cover the increasing needs of hospitals especially during the summer,” the company said.

ANEK Lines collected a total of 30 units of blood and 10 bone marrow samples that will cover the needs of road accident victims and patients that suffer from blood disorders.

“At ANEK Lines we believe that essential contribution to society and fellow citizens is made through simple acts of altruism. Our voluntary blood donation drive is a responsible act of giving that helps authorities deal with blood deficiency, a situation that endangers the lives of thousands of people every day. We are proud of this contribution and thankful to all the volunteers that responded to our call on this joint journey for life,” ANEK Lines President Giorgos Katsanevakis said.

To support its blood donation drive, ANEK Lines also ran an information campaign on social media that was supported by Greek singers and actors and included a promo video – https://vimeo.com/738181859/08e8d1e63a – directed by Thodoris Papadoulakis.

During its blood donation drive, the company maintained all health measures against the spread of Covid-19.
