The municipality’s representatives traveled to Malta last month and presented the alternative tourism advantages of Eastern Halkidiki, including cultural, diving, wine, hiking and education tourism, during business meetings with local travel professionals. According to the municipality, Malta is a “mature tourism market” which already has an air connection to Thessaloniki, which is only one hour away from Halkidiki by car. Therefore, the municipality’s representatives presented a complete travel package and gave essential information to Malta’s travel professionals on the cost and accommodation options in Eastern Halkidiki. Meetings with tour operators While in Malta, the municipality’s representatives met with executives of leading local tour operator FCM. The executives expressed their interest to discover Eastern Halkidiki and promote the area as a cultural Mediterranean destination. For this purpose, the FCM’s CEO and sales manager agreed to travel to Eastern Halkidiki in September. Moreover, the Greek delegation presented its diving and wine tourism products to the CEO of BRITANNIA, a local tour operator that offers travel packages to Greece for solo travelers, families and groups of thematic travelers. In mid-October, the Aristotle municipality will host the BRITANNIA head and his associates in Eastern Halkidiki and will showcase sections of the Thessaloniki – Mt Athos wine route. Malta is the eighth tourism market the municipality has approached for business this year after Portugal, Spain, Scandinavia, Ireland, Scotland, Corsica and Montenegro. “We insist on opening to new markets, while strengthening our existing ones. Our aim is to achieve the equal influx of travelers from every European and Mediterranean destination by building a sustainable tomorrow for the entire municipality,” Aristotle Mayor Stelios Valianos said. In 2020 and 2021, the municipality had reached out to travel professionals in Croatia, Slovenia, Poland and France.
