The 86th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in September will present an audiovisual show to commemorate the 100th anniversary since the Asia Minor catastrophe.

Thessaloniki’s landmark expo will take place at the city’s international exhibition center during September 10-18.

Under the title “A century …in Ιonia, Τhrace & Pontus”, the audiovisual show will be held in an area of 500 square meters inside TIF’s Pavilion 6, also known as the Pavilion of Nations.

Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in guided tours and follow a 15-minute narrative through history with photos, historic archives and music composed especially for the presentation by Greek composer Jannos Eolou.

According to TIF’s organizer, TIF-Helexpo, the show aims to travel visitors back in time and highlight the achievements of people who lost their homes in Asia Minor but managed to thrive in their new homeland – Greece.

The narrative’s sections include:

  • the place of origin before the disaster
  • the displacement: the refuge flow from the places of origin to the Greek state
  • the settlement in new homelands
  • the integration into society.

Pavillion 6 will also host a temporary exhibition titled “1922 – 2022: waves of refugees, alloys of memory”.

The study of the exhibition’s material was based on a multi-member interdisciplinary interaction between museologists, reputable historians and external contributors.
