IBTM Americas 2022 took place in Mexico’s Centro Citibanamex during August 24-25 with the majority of participants from Mexico and countries in South America, as well as from the US and Canada. The expo hosted 454 exhibitors and over 9,700 professional meetings. Representing Greece, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) participated in the IBTM Americas with the aim to approach Latin America – a significant target market with great development potential for Greek tourism. In a statement, GNTO Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis highlighted that opening to new markets is a key pillar of the organization’s strategy to boost Greek tourism. “One of our main target markets is Latin America, for which we dedicated much effort and preparation in the last months,” he said, adding that the GNTO used its office in Madrid to make contacts with countries of South America. The GNTO has also collaborated with Air Europa, which operates in the wider region. “We took another decisive step by participating in the IBTM Americas exhibition in Mexico City. This is the first time Greece had a presence at a tourism exhibition in Latin American and we are very satisfied with the results of our debut there,” Fragakis said, adding that the GNTO will continue its strategy to attract business from the Latin American market to Greece. During the IBTM Americas expo, the GNTO’s stand attracted a great number of visitors, including the Ambassador of Greece to Mexico, Argyro Papoulia, and hosted over 100 B2B meetings between Greek and local tourism professionals. The Greek stand was manned by the GNTO’s representatives in its North American office, Konstantinos Harokopos, Maria Kritharioti and Sofoklis Savvas The organization also set up a photo booth for visitors who wished to have their photo taken with an image of Greece in the background. In addition, through its eight stands at Centro Citibanamex, the organization offered visitors material from its “You will want to stay forever” summer tourism campaign as well as QR codes that connected visitors with the organization’s website at www.visitgreece.gr.
