The famous race also known as the “Rally of the Gods” runs through to September 11 with cars touring iconic locations in Attica, the Peloponnese and Central Greece. “The Acropolis Rally is the best investment for the promotion of Greek tourism internationally,” said Dimitris Fragakis, secretary general of the GNTO, which is this year a grand sponsor of the historic rally that goes by the name “EKO Rally Acropolis 2022” after its main sponsor. First held in 1951 and part of the World Rally Championship (WRC), the Acropolis Rally is one of the toughest car races and one of the longest-standing international rallying events. “The visibility and impact of the ‘Rally of the Gods’ contributes significantly to the promotion of Greece. The Acropolis Rally is the best investment for the promotion of Greek tourism internationally,” said Fragakis, adding that the race will be broadcast worldwide. More than 1 million viewers in 150 countries across the globe will have the chance to see images of Greece as many of the routes showcase lesser-known areas, he said. Integrating the Acropolis Rally into its marketing efforts, the GNTO will run televised spots featuring beautiful destinations in Greece during the four-day event and its special stages. On Thursday, 70 internationally-acclaimed drivers will fire up their engines for the EKO Acropolis Rally 2022 Super Special Stage at the Athens Olympic Stadium (OAKA) at 7.30pm. OAKA will open at 4.30pm for festivities ahead of the spectacular event. The EKO Acropolis Rally 2022 closing and awards ceremonies will take place on Sunday, September 11, in Lamia, Central Greece.
