Mykonos Set to Host its Debut Running Festival

The popular Greek island of Mykonos is getting ready to host its first running event, open to all ages and fitness levels, on Friday, September 30.

In its inaugural year, the three-day Mykonos Running Festival will aim to gain a place in the world’s sports tourism events scene. Organized by the Municipality of Mykonos and the MEAS Triton sports federation, the event will run until October 2.

Program

The festival’s program is spread out in three races:

– the Half Marathon Mykonos Gold
– the 10km Mykonos Run
– and the 2.5km Mykonos Family Fun.

Parallel events include a Kids Athletics program, a concert, a beach party, a festival of traditional products and a business forum.

Olympic champions and big names from the field of sports will be on the island to participate in the races, including Lefteris Petrounias (still rings), Vassiliki Millousi (artistic gymnast), Miltos Tentoglou (track and field athlete / long jump), Spyros Gianniotis (swimmer / long-distance and open-water freestyle events), Christos Volikakis (track cyclist), Giorgos Printezis (former professional basketball player) and Makis Kalaras (Paraolympic medalist).

On-spot registration

Online registration for the event has closed. On-the-spot registration will be taking place on Friday and Saturday in the courtyard of the Municipality of Mykonos between 11am-7pm.

The 1st Mykonos Running Festival will be held in accordance with the regulations of the World Athletics federation.
