HTO said there was a strong interest in the destination by fair visitors, tourism professionals as well as by pensioner associations. Among others, HTO officials gathered feedback during B2B meetings with Italian tour operators, travel agents and airlines. As part of an ongoing promotional campaign, the organization renewed its cooperation with the country’s tourism journalist association (GIST) after a meeting with its president, Sabrina Talarico. 109,306 Italian arrivals to Halkidiki during first 9 months of 2022 Photo source: Visit Greece In the meantime, Italian passenger arrivals to Halkidiki via Thessaloniki’s Makedonia airport came to 109,306 from January to September compared to 110,600 for the whole year of 2021. The HTO attributes the increase to more direct flights offered by AEGEAN Airlines, which has decided to extend these into 2023. Flights catering to Italian travelers wishing to visit Halkidiki include: three flights per week to Thessaloniki from Rome from the end of October to January 9, 2023 and two from Milan to January 7, 2023. Additionally, starting in March 2023, three weekly flights to Thessaloniki from Rome and Milan. In the meantime, HTO announced that it will be participating in the Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo Archeologico conference and BIT – Borsa Internazionale del Turismo 2023 in Italy, among others.
