Free Entrance to Greek Museums, Sites on October 28 National Holiday

State-owned museums, monuments and archaeological sites across Greece, managed by the Greek Ministry of Culture, will offer free entrance to all on Friday, October 28^th.

The Greek national holiday, known as “Ohi Day”, will conjointly be a free admissions day at the Acropolis monument and the Acropolis Museum. The museum’s permanent collection includes artifacts from the archaic and classical period.

Athenian residents and visitors can also take a free tour at the National Archaeological Museum that boasts more than 20,000 exhibits providing a panorama of Greek civilization from the beginnings of prehistory to the late antiquity era, or visit its adjacent Epigraphic Museum which is considered the biggest of its kind in the world.

Popular archaeological sites around Greece like Epidaurus, Delphi, Ancient Olympia, and Mycenae – all which grace UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list – will offer free admission as well.

It is worth noting that the aforementioned sites and museums, with the exception of the Acropolis Museum, offer free entrance to all every first Sunday of the month from November 1^st to March 31^st.

On the occasion of “Ohi Day” a series of commemorating events and exhibitions are also programmed to take place in private museums and sites around the country.

The “Ohi Day” public holiday this year marks 82 years since Greece rejected Benito Mussolini’s request to allow Axis forces to enter Greek territory, thus beginning its participation in World War II after the Italian troops attacked the Greek borders on the same day.
