Future of Coastal and Maritime Tourism to be Discussed in Athens Conference

Best practices, current trends and new opportunities of blue tourism in Greece and the East Mediterranean will be the main topics of discussion at the “NAUTILUS: Coastal and Nautical Tourism – Connecting the Blue Community” conference to take place in Athens during November 10-11.

An initiative of the Nautilus EU funded project,  the conference will take place at the Wyndham Grand Athens hotel.

The Nautilus conference will include a foresight workshop as well as to presentations from projects connected to the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) Blue Careers and other funding schemes. It will also offer a closer look into the new EU funding opportunities for the marine sector and act as an ideal opportunity to meet and network with organizations within the coastal and nautical tourism sector in Greece.

Conference Program – DAY ONE

During Day One of the event, a series of presentations will focus on the promotion of underwater natural and cultural heritage and examine applications and platforms such as Safe Water Sports and Xplore Blue and how they can actively support and develop best practices in blue tourism.

Regional flagship projects and the evolution of cruise tourism under the sustainability umbrella will also be discussed while bilateral meetings between participants are to be held at the end of the day.

Foresights & Future Lab – DAY TWO

An interactive co-design workshop that will explore the future of Coastal and Nautical Tourism in 2040 in Europe & Greece led by UNESCO Chair on Futures Research Epaminondas Christophilopoulos will be the main event of Day Two.

The workshop will focus on identifying potential scenarios and propose strategic ideas that can safeguard blue tourism during possible future crisis.

Day One conference events will run in English and on hybrid, open – to – all mode.

Day Two will run in Greek, in person and will be available to interested individuals who have pre -registered for the event.

The Nautilus Project partners consortium proposes a university-business collaboration in East Mediterranean basin to expand knowledge, and renew education & training curriculum models, for blue growth and sustainability.
