Held in collaboration with Mastercard for the third year, the municipality’s official tourism bureau “This is Athens” aims to promote Athens as an autumn city-break destination and thus boost tourist arrivals to the Greek capital. The initiative, which is supported by AEGEAN, this year is focused on German and Austrian travelers and will run during November 4-27. It includes a series of proposals/special prices for air travel, accommodation and experiences in the Greek capital – exclusively for Mastercard cardholders. “This collaboration clearly shows the dynamic partnerships the municipality has planned and carried out with key tourism stakeholders. Partnerships that showcase the authentic Athenian experience and make our city an award-winning cultural destination,” said Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyiannis. The third “Stay in Athens” edition sees Mastercard holders from Germany and Austria offered a 30 percent discount on airline tickets and at a variety of local/affiliated hotels. According to its website, “Stay in Athens” will also provide special offers and the opportunity to German and Austrian visitors to participate in many exclusively designed experiences with special prices or discounts. For example, an experience named “In touch with Cycladic Culture”, will see participants follow a thematic tour at the Museum of Cycladic Art, accessible to people with visual impairments, which will include a newly crafted mobile showcase with exhibit replicas made of marble or resin. Moreover, visually impaired participants will have the opportunity to “sense” the Acropolis through “a multi-sensory experience” using tactile & 3D model material. Photo Source: Stay In Athens. Underlining the initiative’s offers and inclusive character, Mastercard’s country manager in Greece, Cyprus and Malta, Panagiotis Polydoros, said that through the strategic partnership with the municipality and the collaboration of AEGEAN, Mastercard supports Athens by offering more privileges to cardholders. AEGEAN will offer a 30 percent discount on air tickets booked to Athens during the initiative’s run by German and Austrian Mastercard cardholders.
