‘Cities of Tomorrow’ Displayed in Athens Center

Vassilisis Olgas Avenue, near the center of Athens, is currently hosting the artworks of a number of architects, graphic designers and sketch artists that envision the “Cities of Tomorrow”.

Organized by the Municipality of Athens, the open air exhibition brings together 42 Greek and international creators specializing in architecture, photography, graphic design and painting.

Inaugurated on the occasion of World Cities Day, celebrated annually on October 31, the “Cities of Tomorrow” exhibition is the result of the municipality’s open call to creators to share their vision of Athens in the future. The open air exhibition will run until the end of November.

“This exhibition carries a message for the future of city life. We need fresh ideas that will inspire us to create the city we want to live in. Our goal is to transform these young artists’ ideas into actions,” said Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis.

Curated by art historian and cultural advisor to the Mayor of Athens, Katerina Koskina, and architect, Konstantinos Pittas the exhibition’s works stand as a comment on modern urban life and propose solutions that safeguard environmental protection and social cohesion.

At the same time, the art projects on display underline the importance of sustainability and accessibility and look to the city as the preeminent space of expressive freedom and solidarity.

The exhibition runs with the support of the United Nations Regional Information Center and the Eurocities Network.

United Nations implemented World Cities Day in 2014 to promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization and address the challenges of city development. “Act Local to Go Global” is its 2022 motto.
