The airline’s first Rome-Tokyo flight took place on November 5 and was 100 percent full in terms of passengers and cargo. It was operated with the company’s flagship aircraft, the Airbus A350. The new route will have three weekly frequencies, departing at 3:20 pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from Rome Fiumicino to Tokyo Haneda airport, where it is scheduled to arrive the next day at 11:20 am. The return flight is scheduled from Haneda every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 1:35 pm with arrival in Rome FCO at 8:30 pm. For the inauguration of the new route, ITA Airways held a ribbon-cutting ceremony which was attended by Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer ITA Airways; Tommaso Fumelli, Vice President Sales Italy ITA Airways; Carlo Briziarelli, Chief Ground Operations ITA Airways; Pierluigi Di Palma, President of ENAC; Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer AdR; and Federico Scriboni, Head of Aviation Business Development AdR. Moreover, a toast was offered to all departing passengers at gate E11 of Rome Fiumicino airport to celebrate the new ITA Airways connection. ITA Airways operates for first time in Japanese market This is the first time ITA Airways operates in the Japanese market and, more importantly, the company is one of the few airlines to operate a direct Rome Fiumicino – Tokyo Haneda flight with arrival in Tokyo’s city centre. “Through this new flight, Japanese passengers will be able to discover the beauties of the country and the uniqueness of the ‘Made in Italy’ and will also use this flight as a connecting one to start exploring other Italian cities, courtesy of 20 domestic connections offered by ITA Airways,” the airline said in a company announcement. ITA Airways inaugurates the expansion of its network towards the Asian market, confirming its commitment to attracting connecting customers. This new intercontinental connection joins the six already operated by ITA Airways with direct flights to New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. Direct flights from Rome Fiumicino to New Delhi (India) and Malé (Maldives) will follow in December.
