The Grand Forest Metsovo, a 5-star mountain hotel and luxury nature retreat in Northwestern Greece, was named the World’s Leading Landmark Hotel for the second year in a row at the World Travel Awards (WTA). The WTA, which recently held its 29th edition in Muscat, Oman, are considered the “Oscars” of the travel industry, recognizing the best tourism has to offer worldwide. Grand Forest’s distinction comes after last year’s inclusion in the Considerate Collection of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the first Greek boutique hotel on the list to be recognized for a green ethos that combines luxury with longevity. © Christos Drazos Photography. “For us, hospitality has never meant providing only premium accommodation with high-level services but also to manage to include all that our land offers into our hotel’s concept,” said Grand Forest’s Elli Barbayianni. The Grand Forest Metsovo hotel is situated on the slopes of the Pindos Mountain range – at the foot of Pindos National Park. Its 62 suites, designed in harmony with the natural surroundings, offer unique views while the hotel’s lounges are in tune with the alpine countryside. © Christos Drazos Photography. The hotel’s signature restaurant, Metsovo 1350m, boasts a menu by executive consultant chef Gikas Xenakis and is designed to reflect the region’s great gastronomical tradition, based on fresh, local ingredients with a modern flair. © Christos Drazos Photography. The hotel’s spa offers a holistic wellness experience, while Grand Forest’s “restless” guests can benefit from activities like wild truffle hunting, exploring the Pindos National Park or skiing at nearby ski centers. “We aim to create unique and interactive experiences for our visitors, filled with the colors and unique features of the natural area, in a sophisticated way,” Barbayianni added. Grand Forest Metsovo opened its doors in December 2013 and has been accepted in the “Small Luxury Hotels” group and has received numerous awards and features in international media such as Condé Nast Traveller, National Geographic, The Times and The Guardian.
