French tour operators and travel agents were invited to discover off-season Greece and explore its city break options during the annual Selectour conference held in Athens on Friday. Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias welcomed the 550+ travel agents, hoteliers, tour operators and sector professionals who were in Athens for the conference and encouraged them to “start walking”. Kikilias said this year’s event would contribute greatly to the promotion of Greece and of Athens as a leading city break destination. He referred to the Greek capital as the “ultimate off-season destination”, “the cradle of Western civilization”, adding that it was one of the most “charming cities in Europe” best discovered on foot. “It is a great honor for us to host the 12th Selectour conference in Greece and especially in Athens, the capital of the country, in a new era for tourism,” he said, adding that ties between Greece and France are strong and manifold. “Athens is one of the most charming capitals of Europe. To know and love this city, you have to walk. A stroll through its historic center is enough to get a feel. A city that is the birthplace of Western civilization but continues to produce modern culture,” he said. The minister went on to add that French travelers love Greece with arrival figures this year exceeding pre-pandemic 2019. He went on to say that French travel agents would be building even stronger foundations for stronger figures next year. Selectour is France’s leading network of independent travel agencies.
