The event, which is expected to bring together some 1,000 travel organizers, destinations and tourism organizations from over 80 countries, will be back in full force after 2021’s cancellation due to the covid pandemic. Greece was set as partner country in 2021 and will retain the title at the expo that will run at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre in 2023 between January 20 and 22. “We are happy to continue the cooperation. Greece has been one of the most popular destinations for Finns, and a wider presentation of the country’s tourism opportunities has been wished for even earlier,” said Matka Nordic Travel Fair’s Business Manager Noora Haatainen. On his part, Pavlos Mourmas, head of the Greek National Tourism Organization’s branch for Nordic and Baltic countries, added that Finland and the other Nordic countries are important for Greek tourism. “We want more tourists to get to know our destinations,” he said, adding that “safety, authenticity, and the Greek food culture” are just a few reasons why Finns continue to choose Greece as their holiday destination. Matka’s 2023 program will feature lectures and presentations on travel and tourism’s latest challenges and trends and act as an assistive platform to visitors looking to choose their next holiday destination. Furthermore, its exhibition floor will host new countries and destinations as well as a selection of travel stories and offers while the sustainable and socially responsible travel platform will take center stage. Greece’s participation will promote the country’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and showcase new activities and experiences under its sustainability umbrella, as part of Metka’s 2023 program.
