Acropolis Museum Launches New Social and Educational Programs

The Acropolis Museum in Athens is strengthening its social and educational role by expanding and enriching its parallel programs for people of different backgrounds and experiences.

As a socially responsible institution, the museum’s new activities support inclusion and reintegration and the right to equal access in cultural goods and museum exhibits by all.

In this context, immigrants and refugees of all ages, interested in Greek history and culture, can attend tours led by archaeologists and tourist guides to learn more about the Acropolis hill, its art and the people behind its creation.

Additionally, “Second Chance” school students at correctional facilities can virtually visit the museum and “walk” around its galleries and most important exhibits.

Both activities offer participants the opportunity to exchange views, gain new experiences and enrich their knowledge and aesthetics.

The Acropolis Museum website has also created a new section entitled “The Museum at School” in order to accommodate the educational needs of schools abroad and in remote Greek areas.

This section includes online programs and digital applications that can make lessons about the Acropolis and the related Greek history more engaging and interactive.

It also offers information about the museum kits that are available on loan for schools and the Educational Resources Repository which is a rich information source draw information about the archaeological site and the museum’s exhibits.
