Photo source: @Vkikilias. Greek tourism revenue in October marked an all-time best record exceeding October 2019 levels, said Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias. The minister’s announcement on Twitter was based on recently published data by the Bank of Greece (BoG), which indicated that the country’s travel receipts in October 2022 rose year – on – year by 16.7 percent and by 3.3 percent when compared with the respective period of 2019. The rise in travel receipts was due to a 28.6 percent increase in inbound traveler flows in relation to the same 2021 period, according to BoG’s research. More specifically, traveler flows through airports in Greece increased by 20 percent compared with October 2021, while traveler flows through road border-crossing points rose by 139.4 percent. This overall increase was due to more visits from both within the EU27 (up by 11 percent) and outside the EU27 (up by 64.3 percent). The Greek government aims to secure increased traveler flows to the country all year round, through a string of marketing initiatives like GNTO’s joint advertising program with airlines, which Kikilias mentioned during a special event held earlier this week to present the sector’s results for this year. Furthermore, 11 airlines have already agreed to boost flight capacity and destinations for off-season months such as December, January, February and March, according to the minister.
