According to writer Lynn Roulo, who has chosen Greece as her home base since 2013, the Mediterranean country’s hospitality extents to a particular “respect and inclusion of elderly people”.

Furthermore, Roulo praises Greece’s high-quality medical care for a “fraction of the cost in the U.S.” as she notes, with medical tourism fast becoming a growing sector of the Greek economy.

The writer also underlines the country’s low cost of living, its food-centered culture and good overall climate but gives a note of caution regarding Greece’s bureaucracy when it comes to issues live visa issuing and residence options.

Portugal, got the top spot in International Living’s Annual Global Retirement Index with an average score of 87.4. Rounding up the top 5, Mexico, Panama, Ecuador and Costa Rica follow.
