Users of the municipal e-services platform, which launched in February 2020 by the city of Athens Computerization Development Company (DAEM), can now access a total of 207 services online without having to visit municipal offices in person. “In less than three years we’ve managed to go fully digital, tackling bureaucracy and reducing our eco–footprint,” said Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis, adding that Athens’ residents “are now just three clicks away” from getting what they need from local authorities, all from the comfort of their home. The municipality’s e-platform (https://eservices.cityofathens.gr) gives users the ability to log by using their TAXISnet credentials and request the issue of a document, make online payments and track municipal activities, among other services. According to municipal officials, during the last three years more than 194,000 residents and businesses have logged on to the platform, having made more than 260.000 applications or requests. The final phase of Athens’ services digitalization included the addition of 56 services that were chosen to go online, according to the impact they would have if digitized and followed. The last services added include: Applying for the issue of administrative fees. Requesting tree cutting. Applying for a civil marriage license. Enrolling an adopted child in the family register. Recording a gender reassignment in the civil register. Applying for access to the municipal food market or pharmacy. Registering a complaint. Applying for access to municipal archive material. Enrollment to municipal educational programs designed for adults. Applying for initial enrollment in the civil register after a Greek citizenship acquisition. All platform users can also upload necessary documents to complete their application process, monitor its progress and get a valid digital copy of the document they have applied for.
