Photo source: Municipality of Milos. Milos island in the Cyclades has been chosen as a must-see destination in 2023 by two of the most popular British and US travel-related sites. UK travel website holidayextras.com, which boasts over 8,000 travel agents and 4,000 exclusive collaboration agreements with companies such as TUI UK, Easyjet and CO-OP Travel, recently included Milos in its “40 Best Trips for Your 2023 Bucket List” list, recognizing the island’s unspoiled character and unique natural settings. Furthermore, Travel off Path, one of North America’s largest independent travel news websites with 3 million visitors per month, chose Milos, along Corfu and Rhodes, as the “3 Most Beautiful Greek Islands” to visit in Greece, calling the country “one of Europe’s top destinations for 2023”. However, Milos is also presented in international travel media as an ideal permanent residence choice for retirees or digital nomads. Tripiti, Milos island © Maria Theofanopoulou. According to the Municipality of Milos, the island was included in International Living’s proposed places in Greece where one can retire, after the website included Greece in its top 10 best places to retire, according to its Annual Global Retirement Index. In addition, Forbes magazine, while republishing the aforementioned survey, noted that Greece has a cheap cost of living for US travelers and citizens who may be considering moving to the country in the future. Milos Municipality representatives also travelled to London last December to participate in a special marketing event organized by the Greek Tourism Ministry. During the event, Milos was promoted as a wedding tourism destination to British travel market representatives, as part of the municipality’s strategic plan to target the UK market. But it is the mid ground that fascinated me to the extent I took about 100 Street View panos (including some from a drone) there last June which you can see on Google Maps as virtual tours of the Catacombs, the Ancient Theater and most importantly the finding (stealing) place of Venus that “certain people” (including myself) maintain should be returned to Milos.
