Destinations news Greece Aims to Become Digital Nomads Hub with New Reforms by GTP editing team 27 January 2023 written by GTP editing team 27 January 2023 1 comment Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 23 Greece’s Development & Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis announced plans to establish the country into a hub for digital nomads during the Greek House Davos (GHD) annual meeting held recently in Davos, Switzerland. Georgiadis admitted that Greece could do more to attract remote workers. “Greece is now a country friendly to investments and entrepreneurship but not the friendliest yet. It will become ‘friendlier’ with the new reforms we have planned,” he said. Addressing a panel discussion titled “Strategic Investments, Demonstrating Resilience in Times of Global Uncertainly, Navigating the Path Ahead”, Georgiadis said the government would in the coming period announce a series of new foreign investments set to have an impact on the global investor community. “In the last 3.5 years, Greece has been on the radar of the global investment community,” he said, referring to Pfizer, Microsoft, Digital Realty, Amazon Web Services, Google, and TeamViewer among those currently doing business in Greece. Looking ahead, the minister said he expects growth this year to hover around 1.8 percent – three times higher than the EU average. Earlier this year, Greek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras also said he expected investment activity in Greece to accelerate in 2023 and in 2024. Lastly, referring to the energy crisis, the minister said it contributed to boosting investor activity in Greece, establishing the country into a key energy hub for Europe and the wider region. “The crisis made investments in RES more attractive since they became economically more advantageous. In Greece, taking advantage of its natural advantages in RES energy production, we significantly accelerated the licensing procedures allowing us to achieve our goal six years earlier, in mid-2024 instead of 2030 as initially predicted,” he said.
