Greece and Serbia Agree to Facilitate Tourism

Greece and Serbia on Tuesday agreed to take actions that will facilitate travel between the two countries after a meeting between Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias, the Greece-Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group and Serbia’s Ambassador to Greece Dusan Spasojevic.

The news comes after announcements last month that Air Serbia would be launching in April direct flights from Belgrade to the Greek islands of Rhodes, Corfu, and Crete (Heraklion and Chania).

Strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism topped the agenda of talks. Besides the launch of flights to four new Greek destinations by Serbia’s national carrier, the operation of a Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) office in Belgrade and a Serbia Tourism Board branch in Athens was also discussed.

Kikilias was also informed of a roaming charge issue affecting Serbian travelers who visit Greece and which has led to an annual loss of 300,000-400,000 tourists from Serbia, the delegation said.

The two countries also agreed to take targeted actions to promote winter tourism offerings in Greece and Serbia.

Air Serbia flights to:

– Heraklion, Crete, start on April 28 running on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays

– Chania, Crete, start on June 4 every Monday, Thursday, and Sunday

– Rhodes begin on June 5 running on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturday

– Corfu to kick off on June 9 every Monday and Friday.
