Merakos Paros, a popular Greek island destination, is among the top 23 romantic locations around the world, according to a new survey by DiscoverCars.com, an online platform that connects customers and car rental companies around the globe. DiscoverCars.com looked at 23 locations, all renowned for being the best places to travel to throughout 2023, according to a seed list from Forbes where Paros had originally ranked in the top 10. They then used social media app TikTok to find the top hashtag used in relation to the location, as well as one commonly used for romantic getaways, and recorded the combined number of views to score and rank each city accordingly. The study analyzed the number of views on each location’s hashtag and a romance-themed hashtag related to each destination to get an idea of the number of users talking about love in each location. #Paros ranks 13th Kolymbithres Beach, Paros. Photo source: Visit Greece Ranking as the 13th most romantic location according to TikTok, Paros received over 141 million combined views on the platform with the hashtags #Paros and #ParosLover. According to DiscoverCars.com “the island, is renowned for its pristine beaches and beautiful blue sea water and is a perfect sunny destination for couples in need of a break in the heat.” Furthermore, Paros was praised for its many nightclubs and beach clubs, creating a nightlife panorama that couples can experience together. Doha, Qatar. Topping the list was Doha, Qatar with 7.4 billion views followed by Perth, Australia with 6.8 billion and Queenstown, New Zealand with almost 600 million combined views. The results of the survey show that social media is becoming an increasingly important factor in choosing travel destinations. With TikTok being one of the most popular social media platforms today, it is not surprising that it is having a significant impact on travel trends.
