Dubbed “Digital ID”, the new service, which is connected to the state digital platform gov.gr, aims to further speed up boarding procedures. The service is available via the AEGEAN App and to passengers that have digitized their Greek ID cards and uploaded them onto the government’s Gov.gr Wallet platform. In order to use the service, passengers must have both the Gov.gr Wallet app (which will contain their digitized Greek ID card) and the AEGEAN app installed on their smartphones. AEGEAN’s new digital service allows all passengers of AEGEAN Airlines and Olympic Air domestic flights to add their digital ID on their mobile boarding pass, upon check in completion with few and simple steps. The launch of AEGEAN’s new “Digital ID” service follows the three-year anniversary of the state digital platform gov.gr celebrated recently by the Greek Ministry of State and Digital Governance. The new service was officially launched on Thursday at Athens International Airport (AIA) and tried out by Greek Minister of State and Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierakkakis. “Greece is constantly accelerating, changing and presenting a new example,” the minister said. “We would like to congratulate AEGEAN for this initiative and for cooperating in the implementation of a simple and easy-to-use service that will make the travel experience of millions of passengers even better,” Pierakkakis added. AEGEAN’s app is available on iOS, Android, Huawei devices and passengers must have downloaded the latest version (v6.5.5) in order to use the service. It should be noted that the use of the app is voluntary.
