The European Cultural Center of Delphi, located in the mountainous region of Central Greece, is set to receive a 10 million euros upgrade, the Greek Culture Ministry announced recently. According to the ministry, the center’s upgrade will include a wide range of improvements such as the renovation of its exhibition spaces, the installation of new and energy efficient technological infrastructure, and a redesign of its main amphitheater to enhance capacity to host events and accommodate visitors. Plans also include the addition of an elevator to connect all levels of the center and interventions to allow full accessibility to the main amphitheater scene. Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said the upgrade is part of a broader initiative to revitalize cultural institutions across Greece, which have suffered from underfunding and neglect in recent years. She also emphasized the importance of cultural institutions in promoting Greece’s rich heritage and identity, and in driving tourism and economic growth. According to Mendoni, the upgrade will be funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The minister added that the upgrade is sure to enhance the center’s already impressive reputation as a cultural and educational hub. Founded in 1977, the European Cultural Centre of Delphi is an internationally renowned institution that hosts a variety of cultural events, including exhibitions, seminars, concerts, and theatrical performances. The center is also a hub for research and education with programs aimed at promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and fostering international cooperation. The center’s upgrade will run parallel to the maintenance works already taking place at the Delphi archaeological site and will see the addition of more translation booths to its main amphitheater, a renovation of its WC facilities and a replacement of its flooring and door frames.
