Athens in among the Top 5 non-US cities American travelers want to visit this year, according to a study released recently by Go City, which provides passes for major attractions at destinations in the US, Europa and Asia. According to a January poll of 1,001 full-time workers from the US about their vacation time and travel plans in 2023, Athens was ranked 5th as a most desired destination for holidays this year. First city of choice outside the US, was Tokyo, followed by London, Rome, Paris and Athens. Top US states on their bucket lists were Hawaii, California, Florida, Colorado and Alaska. Source: Go City. The survey also found that more than a quarter (26 percent) of Americans will be taking one vacation this year, one in three are planning two trips, and 30 percent are taking three or more trips. A total of 67 percent said they were budgeting for travel and 53 percent had to cut back or change their plans due to the cost-of-living crisis. On average, American travelers are budgeting nearly 5,000 dollars for holidays this year. Source: Go City Topping their list of “To Do” activities while on vacation are seeing beautiful scenery, trying local food, visiting family or friends, having a unique experience and visiting landmarks or local attractions. The workcation trend Meanwhile, 48 percent of those polled work remotely. Among them, the workcation trend seems to be booming – 29 percent say they plan to work remotely while on vacation this year and one in four will extend a holiday by working remotely. Additionally, more than one in four Americans are looking to take a workcation in 2023. Broken down: half of Gen Z say they will take a workcation, followed by 26 percent of Millennials, 24 percent of Gen X and 22 percent of Baby Boomers. According to the same poll, 35 percent said they have mixed work and travel before and nearly 60 percent say they’re just as productive as they’d be at home.
