Attica: Tourism Tops Agenda of Talks with Lithuania’s New Ambassador to Greece

The promotion of tourism and strengthening bilateral relations with Lithuania topped the agenda of talks between Attica Regional Governor George Patoulis and Lithuania’s new Ambassador to Greece, Lina Skerstonaitė.

During a recent meeting in Athens, the officials expressed their commitment to develop their collaboration in the tourism, entrepreneurship and shipping sectors both at a national and regional level.

Patoulis expressed his willingness to further enhance the already positive cooperation with Lithuania, which has led to a significant increase in visitors to Greece from the Baltic country.

He also highlighted the strategic goal of promoting Attica as a 12-month tourist destination with a particular focus on thematic tourism, such as health tourism.

“Attica is changing, paving the way for a new era of development and prosperity. We focus on strengthening the region’s outreach and in this direction there are opportunities of collaboration with Lithuania,” the governor said.

On her part, Skerstonaitė expressed a strong interest in strengthening bilateral regional relationsin the fields of tourism and shipping.

She stressed the importance that Lithuania showcases towards this goal, considering that an honorary consulate for shipping already operates in Piraeus.

Patoulis highlighted that the Region of Attica is already carrying out high profile infrastructure projects, such as the upgrade of the Faliro Delta coastal district in the southern part of Athens.

“But we are also constructing two new large piers in the port of Piraeus that will strengthen and further facilitate cruise tourism and maritime entrepreneurship,” Patoulis added.
