Considered Bavaria’s largest fair for leisure and travel, f.re.e ran between February 22-26 and included 900 exhibitors from 50 countries and attracted the interest of some 160,000 visitors. The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization (TTO) and Halkidiki Tourism Organizations (HTO) participated in a joint stand hosted by the pavilion of the Region of Central Macedonia. During the five-day exhibition, the two northern Greek tourism organizations received a large number of German guests, with one in three stating that they had already visited Halkidiki in the past, at least once. Thessaloniki was hailed as a destination with a rich history and gastronomy. In an announcement, Halkidiki Tourism Organization President Grigoris Tassios stated that the German market has been Halkidiki’s number one source market for years and underlined the importance of road arrivals from southern Germany. Halkidiki is only a 16-hour drive away via Serbia. On her part, Thessaloniki Tourism Organization President Voula Patoulidou underlined that the joint promotion of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki offers German tourists the opportunity to have many different authentic experiences beyond the classic “Sun – Sea” tourism model.
