Presenting Qatar Airways’ ambitious plans at a press conference at ITB Berlin, the company’s Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, announced that 35 destinations the airline flies to are slated to receive an increase in flight frequency this year. The Greek capital, which is one of the 35 destinations on the list, will soon welcome 14 Qatar Airways weekly flights, up from seven. Other destinations to see frequency increases scheduled for the year 2023 include Berlin (from 11 weekly flights to 14), Larnaca (from seven weekly to 14), London Heathrow (from 42 weekly to 45) and Zurich (from 10 weekly to 14). Photo source: Qatar Airways Besides increasing flight frequencies to a number of destinations Qatar Airways serves, Al Baker said plans include the launch of flights to seven new destinations and 11 flight resumptions. “As the world’s best airline, we are excited to offer more ways of bringing the world together, increasing connectivity and bridging gaps within the travel industry,” Al Baker said at the press conference. Qatar Airways has over seven new destinations planned for launch in 2023, including Chittagong, Juba, Kinshasa, Lyon, Medan, Toulouse and Trabzon. The airline is also resuming flights to 11 destinations: Beijing, Birmingham, Buenos Aires, Casablanca, Davao, Marrakesh, Nice, Osaka, Phnom Penh, Ras Al-Khaimah and Tokyo Haneda. Qatar Airways currently flies to more than 150 destinations worldwide. By the end of March 2024 the airline intends to be serving 174 destinations. Photo source: ITB Berlin “Qatar will continue to be a global hub of connectivity and an ideal destination for tourism, long after the great success of the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” he said, adding that Qatar in 2022 welcomed 1.4 million visitors, who enjoyed the games in a secure and welcoming atmosphere. During the press conference, Al Baker also revealed Qatar Airways’ new Formula 1 sports sponsorship as well as a multitude of other projects and partnerships lined up for the year 2023, “continuing on the path of bringing people together” all while boosting the tourism industry in the State of Qatar. “We continue to look forward to our bright future here in Qatar, with multiple projects lined up for 2023 and beyond, such as the Formula 1 partnership and much more,” he added.
