The Athens Flying Week air show event, which takes place in Athens, Greece, received the Marketing Award at the European Airshow Council Conference held recently in Brussels. Already running for 10 years, the Athens Flying Week event is the biggest air show in the Balkans, attracting over 500,000 loyal fans worldwide. The award was given to the president of the event’s organizing committee, Panagiotis Podimatas, in recognition of his team’s hard work in promoting the airshow at a local and international level. The Athens Flying Week is supported and sponsored by the Greek Defense Ministry, the General Defense Forces Chief General Konstantinos Floros, the 114th Fighter Wing of Tanagra, the Central Greece Region, and Regional Governor Fanis Spanos. The event is known for its strict safety protocols and impressive participation by the Greek Armed Forces and the best aviation in the world. Visitors to the airshow can see the takeoff and landing of the most famous aircraft, enjoy a unique air show, take pictures with the planes, helicopters, and pilots, participate in aeromodelling demonstrations, and explore its trade fair. The Athens Flying Week is organized by Podimatas Group (Podimatas Audiovisual, PPDA, Upbeat), with sponsorship from Aegean, EAB, Lockheed Martin, Rafale International and Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”. Athens Flying Week was honored by the European Airshow Council. Founded by a group of like minded airshow professionals in 2001, the Council aims to promote excellence and safety in airshows and represents the wider continental European air display industry. The organisation is made up of members from over 35 nations from Europe and many others from across the globe. Dr. Manolis Karahalios, founding member and Flight Display Director of Athens Flying Week, was recently appointed as the council’s president.
