Greece together with Croatia, Cyprus, and Albania have exceeded pre-Covid 2019 figures in terms of air capacity, according to travel intelligence provider Mabrian Technologies, driving recovery in Southeast Europe.

According to the data, recovery is not at all even across all destinations, said Mabrian which examined air capacity based on flight schedules from January 1 to February 28, 2023 compared to the same 2019 period and hotel prices based on average price per night, double room, weekends, breakfast excluded for the January 2-August 16, 2023 period against the same timeframe in 2022.

Other key takeaways of the report include:

hotel rates are rising in nearly all destinations for all hotel star categories with Bulgaria and Croatia reporting the highest increases in prices over 2022

international flights are driving primary expansion confirming that international travel will continue to recover this year

– air capacity in Croatia is up by 16.1 percent, driven in large part by a 57 percent rise in capacity with Italy

– Albania posted a 75 percent rise in international flights over 2019 helped by a 278 percent increase in connectivity with Germany

– Bulgaria is fast approaching-Covid 2019 air capacity volumes, with signs of recovery for international flights

– scheduled flights in Slovenia have recovered 58 percent of 2019 levels.

“Destinations in Southeast Europe can now begin safely preparing summer campaigns that focus on the source markets that really can deliver them visitors and avoiding those that can’t – as in many cases their typical visitor profile will now be quite different from 2019,” said VP Business Development at Mabrian, Anna Borduzha.

The report was published ahead of the annual New Deal Europe event to be held on March 28 in London.
