The Kalavryta Ski Center in Greece, a snow park with obstacles, jumps and facilities for skiing, sledging and snowmobiling, is set to undergo a major upgrade that will include the installation of new lifts and the addition of a new e-ticketing system. An agreement was signed recently between the Western Greece Region and Monte Noulikas, the project’s contractor, which details the ski center’s upgrade and modernization project budgeted at 22.6 million euros and with a completion deadline of 24 months. After signing the agreement, Western Greece Governor Nektarios Farmakis noted that the project is part of one of the largest infrastructure contracts ever signed by the Region and is expected to boost local tourism development once completed. On his part, Kalavryta Mayor Thanasis Papadopoulos said that the project will secure the ski center’s functionality for the next 40 years. Upgrade works The project will see the replacement of the ski center’s Achilles lift with new state-of-the-art 10-seater closed cabins and the Styga lift with new open 6-seaters. This will improve the lifts’ safety, carrying capacity, speed and also reduce waiting and ascent time for visitors. Moreover, a new electronic ticketing system will be installed while the Vathia Lakka stone building will see an overall refurbishment with sustainable methods and materials. Works improving the ski center slopes accessibility and safety are also expected to take place as part of the forthcoming upgrade. The Kalavryta Ski Center is situated on the northwest side of Mount Helmos, 14 kilometers from Kalavryta and 200 kilometers from Athens. The center has been operating since 1988 and consists of seven lifts, 12 ski runs, free parking, cafeteria, restaurant, ski rental shop, ski school and first aid station.
