Thessaloniki “Makedonia” Airport has been named one of the top in Europe at the 2022 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards by the Airports Council International (ACI) World and travel technology company Amadeus.

Fraport Greece, the company that manages the airport in Thessaloniki, was recognized for its excellence in the category of airports handling 5 to 15 million passengers per year.

Launched in 2006, the ACI’s awards program recognizes airport excellence in customer experience worldwide based on data from ASQ’s renowned Departures and Arrivals surveys, with close to 400 airports in 95 countries participating in the program.

The ASQ Awards, part of the ACI’s global airport rating program, bases its evaluation criteria on direct feedback from passengers on the day of their journey.

According to Fraport Greece, the award is not only an honor for the company and its employees but is also considered “a boost for both the city of Thessaloniki and Greece as a tourism destination”. The airport’s high score in more than 30 evaluation indicators included in the ASQ Awards questionnaire demonstrates the high level of services and standards under which the airport operates.

Commenting on the win, Fraport Greece CEO Alexander Zinell said the company will continue modernizing the already upgraded 14 regional airports under its management.

“Our goal remains clear and is none other than to offer a safe and memorable travel experience through our participation in the development of Greek tourism and local communities,” he said.

The Thessaloniki “Makedonia” Airport has been undergoing a major upgrade in recent years, including new terminals and infrastructure. “The airport’s recognition in the ASQ Awards is a testament to the success of these efforts and the high level of service that the airport now provides to its passengers,” Fraport Greece said.

It is reminded that Fraport Greece handles the airports at three mainland gateways in Greece (ThessalonikiAktion, and Kavala) and on 11 Greek islands (Chania on CreteKefaloniaKosMykonosLesvosRhodesSamosSantoriniSkiathos and Zakynthos).

The 2022 ASQ Awards, which have become the industry standard for benchmarking airport service quality worldwide, introduced new award categories this year to reflect the evolution of passenger needs.

Athens International Airport also won an honoring mention at ACI’s awards in the “25 to 40 million passengers per year” airport category.
