George Oikonomou, Founder of the Marine Tours Group and one of the most prominent self-made figures of the Greek travel and tourism sector, recently passed away. Oikonomou at a young age started working at George Livanos’ “Ceres Shipping” in 1974 before launching his own company “Marine Tours” in 1980, which initially focused on serving the travel needs of shipping companies based at the port of Piraeus. Thanks to its high level of service, Marine Tours quickly rose to prominence establishing itself as a leading travel organization covering the needs of business travelers in Greece and abroad. Oikonomou’s funeral will be held at the Agioi Theodoroi church at the Athens First Cemetery premises, on Tuesday, March 28, at 2pm. We, at GTP, express our sincere condolences to his family.
