Italian flag-carrier ITA Airways’ first Airbus A330-900 with new blue livery was moved out of the hangar at the Airbus Final Assembly Line in Toulouse on Friday.

The Airbus A330neo in ITA Airways’ fleet bears the name of Gelindo Bordin, Olympic champion in Seoul 1988 and the first Italian gold medalist in the five-ring marathon.

According to ITA Airways, the introduction of the aircraft will be another important step toward sustainability.

“Lighter, quieter, and more efficient, the new A330neo will benefit from a 25 percent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous generation aircraft,” the airline said in an announcement.

The A330neo will join the fleet in the summer to serve ITA Airways’ long-haul routes and new intercontinental destinations.
