Chania Airport on the island of Crete is set to host the 14th ACI Europe Regional Airports Conference & Exhibition (RACE 2023), according to a recent announcement by Fraport Greece, the airport’s operator. The annual meeting of European regional airport operators, which will be held for the first time in Greece, is scheduled to take place during 25-27 April. RACE 2023 will bring together more than 150 executives from the regional airport community across Europe. “We are committed to making this year’s meeting as special as the host city,” Fraport Greece CEO Alexander Zinell said. The RACE 2023 conference presents an opportunity for industry leaders to meet and exchange views, thoughts and best practices on various issues related to the aviation market. The agenda for the conference includes sessions on developing connections between airports, innovation, staffing teams in terms of diversity and inclusion, and transitioning to a “green” and digital airport, among others. “We are thrilled that the industry is recovering and the desire of passengers to travel remains unabated. However, airports, especially regional airports, face multiple challenges above and beyond the rapid growth in passenger numbers,” Zinell added. Discussions at the RACE 2022 event will be guided by a content-rich agenda reflecting the vital role that regional airports play in fostering regional connectivity in Europe. “They provide vital services to Europe’s communities, including insular and remote territories… Supporting them is key for ACI Europe and this event is the only one dedicated to their particular interests and needs,” ACI Europe Director General Olivier Jankovec said. Chania, Crete. The ACI Europe RACE conference is an annual event that has become an institution in the aviation market and beyond. It is the only event in the industry dedicated to Europe’s regional hubs and smaller airports. The conference is held under the auspices of the Airports Council International (ACI), which represents over 500 airports in 55 countries across Europe. It is worth noting that the participating airports cover more than 90 percent of commercial air traffic in Europe. The previous annual meeting of ACI Europe RACE 2022 was held in Palermo, Italy, hosted by GESAP S.p.A. – Aeroporto di Palermo. The host of the next year’s edition will be announced during the conference in Chania.
