Athens News Athens Unites: 200+ Groups for Civil Society Festival by GTP editing team 20 April 2023 written by GTP editing team 20 April 2023 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 15 The Municipality of Athens is hosting the first-ever Athens Civil Society Festival from April 21 to 23 at the Serafeio Athletic and Community Complex on Pireos and Petrou Ralli streets. The festival’s goal is to become the largest celebration of solidarity and understanding in the city, attracting more than 200 organizations, citizens’ groups, and agencies that will present their actions, work, and vision for the Greek capital and its residents. The participating organizations will be grouped together under seven themes: Human Rights, Children, Health and Well-Being, Culture, Animal Welfare, Environment and Sustainability, and Solidarity. The festival, co – organized by Syn Athena, will highlight the importance of giving and collaborating in a metropolitan centers like Athens, which has a great need for solidarity but also unlimited possibilities to send the message that “together we are stronger.” Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis stated, “Our first-ever civil society festival is an opportunity for all of us to come out of our shells, listen to each other, learn from one another, become active citizens, and support the work of the festival’s participating groups.” The three-day festival, held at the Serafeio complex, will host successive informative, entertaining, and educational activities. The festival “map” includes 140 information booths and bazaars, 43 children’s and youth activities, 40 screenings and theatrical performances, 20 sports activities, 25 artistic workshops and exhibitions, 15 concerts and musical events, 30 experiential workshops and intervention workshops, and 18 talks and discussions. Scheduled events will focus on issues related to diversity, accessibility, neurodiversity, social inclusion, child protection, visibility, mental health and empowerment, among others, aiming to inspire visitors and celebrate the work of its participating groups. The Athens Civil Society Festival is an opportunity for citizens to come together, collaborate, and support the organizations and groups that can make Athens a better place to live.
