The Greek Tourism Ministry and the University of Piraeus entered a memorandum of understanding this week aimed at developing a framework for cooperation in education and research and in the exchange of know-how. The MoU, which was signed by Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias and Piraeus University Rector Michalis Sfakianakis, foresees cooperation in education, learning and training activities, sharing of premises and infrastructure, as well as in the planning and implementation of joint research projects. Under the MoU both the ministry and the university will also provide employment opportunities to students and researchers in the form of training or internships. “By signing the memorandum of cooperation with the University of Piraeus and in particular with the MBA Tourism Management postgraduate program, we are connecting the tourism labor market with the academic community. Greek tourism needs brilliant young minds,” said Kikilias. Photo source: Tourism Ministry. In other news, Kikilias presented the ministry’s goals should the current government be re-elected on May 21. In an interview to Ta Nea, Kikilias said top priorities include key infrastructure projects at tourist destinations such as water resources management, the transition to green energy, waste management and 5G network infrastructure. The minister went on to add that as a key driver of the Greek economy, the ministry also played a very important development and investment role. “With fast track procedures, development projects with an emphasis on sustainability that will be implemented in tourism will breathe new life into the country for years to come and will ensure that the next generation will experience the joys that we experienced on our islands, on the mainland and in our cities,” he said.
