The Greek Shipping Podcast by Kyvernitis Travel Group – Episode 12: Danae Bezantakou

Kyvernitis Travel Group has launched “The Greek Shipping Podcast” series, an initiative designed to “give voice” to the people of shipping and convey stories of shipping, seamanship and the sea to its listeners.
The monthly podcast was created out of Kyvernitis’ love for travel and Greek shipping.

Episode 12

The twelth episode of the “The Greek Shipping Podcast” is online and features Danae Bezantakou, the CEO at Navigator Shipping Consultants Ltd, a mainstay of the Greek shipping sector for over three decades, developing a robust network of towing companies and ship agencies around the world, offering tailor made programs to the shipowning & ship management companies in more than 1400 ports worldwide.

A few words about Danae Bezantakou and her interview

Danae Bezantakou holds the position of CEO of Navigator Shipping Consultants and is a shareholder of KEFI S.A. travel agency. One of her biggest accomplishments is the organization of Navigator – The Shipping Decision Makers Forum, which is the oldest Greek shipping forum, enhancing the open dialogue among the stakeholders of the Greek and international maritime clusters annually since 2001. She holds a Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Surrey.

In this podcast, Bezantakou narrates the story of her family’s involvement in shipping, starting from her father, a captain in Thenamaris. She then credits Nounou Martinou for being a major influence in her life and talks about the power of collaboration, which is a fundamental principle of the family.

She mentions visiting her parents’ workplace as a child, the rich stimuli, and her engagement in small jobs as a game, which made her love shipping deeply and become close, from a very young age, to the values and importance of the industry.

Moreover, Bezantakou talks about the executives of Thenamaris as part of a large shipping family, which laid the foundation for their initiation in evolving and becoming big names in the shipping industry, by establishing their own respectable companies.

She also elaborates on the Navigator Forum platform through which she was able to invite young people to the Young Executives Forum (YES) at Posidonia Events, initiating an open dialogue, in order to evaluate and assist young people who want to engage in shipping.

In conclusion, Bezantakou refers to the Open Days creation as being able to break the stereotype that most people tended to believe, which wanted the shipping industry to be a tightly closed lobby, where one can only enter if they have the right connections.
