Cunard, the luxury British cruise line, has announced the appointment of Katie McAlister as president.

Katie will join the Southampton-based company in August 2023 after serving as Chief Marketing Officer for TUI UK & Ireland for the past 20 years.

In her new role, Katie will be responsible for leading Cunard’s expansion plans and maximizing its growth opportunities, including the introduction of its newest ship, Queen Anne, in 2024.

“We are delighted to have someone of Katie’s calibre join Cunard at this vital time of expansion,” said Carnival UK President Sture Myrmell, adding that McAlister’s expertise in digital transformation, commercial and operational experience, and strategic oversight will be a significant asset to Cunard.

On her side, McAlister stated that her appointment is “an unrivalled opportunity to join an iconic travel company at a key point in its history,” adding that she was looking forward to “joining the team as it widens its appeal and expands its guest base whilst retaining its renowned luxury, signature touches.”

Katie began her career with TUI in 1998 and has held various positions across the organization, including overseas delivery, commercial, digital, and marketing. As Chief Marketing Officer, she was responsible for sales channels and marketing in the UK & Ireland for TUI, First Choice, and Marella Cruises, as well as global responsibility for the TUI brand and digital marketing.

Cunard has been a leading operator of passenger ships on the North Atlantic since 1840, offering unforgettable experiences around the world.

The company’s reputation for fine dining, hand-selected entertainment, and outstanding service is hailed as one of the best globally. Cunard currently operates three ships – Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria – with Queen Anne joining the fleet in 2024.

Cunard’s investment in the new ship is part of its ambitious plans for the future of the company, marking the first time since 1999 that Cunard will have four ships in simultaneous service.

The company has been owned by Carnival Corporation & plc since 1998.
