According to data provided by the airport, domestic traffic, for the first time since the pandemic, recorded a double-digit growth rate of 15.3 percent (660,926 travelers) compared to 2019 levels. International passenger traffic for AIA in April also saw positive percentage growth at 4.4 percent (1,476,030 travelers). Total passenger traffic (domestic and international) at Athens Airport in April recording a 7.6 percent increase compared to 2019 and amounted to 2.1 million travelers. January-April Domestic traffic at AIA largest airport during the four month period of January-April increased by 5.2 percent compared to 2019 and amounted to 2.09 million travelers. Accordingly, international traffic recorded a 3.4 percent increase compared to pre-pandemic figures and reached 4.5 million passengers. Overall, during the first four months of 2023, the airport’s passenger traffic totaled 6.6 million, higher than the respective 2019 levels by 4 percent. Compared to 2022, when the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on air travel continued, passenger traffic at Athens Airport in April 2023 was up by 26.8 percent. Both domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded 2022 levels by 20.5 percent and 29.8 percent respectively. Overall, during the first four months of the year, passenger traffic was up 47.5 percent compared to 2022, with domestic and international traffic exceeding 2022 levels by 33.8 percent and 54.7 percent respectively. Flights The number of flights at Athens Airport during the first four months of 2023 reached 59,357, recording an increase of 19.3 percent compared to 2022 and 2.9 percent compared to 2019 levels. Both domestic and international flights increased by 11.6 percent and 25.8 percent respectively compared to 2022, and also increased compared to 2019 by 6.5 percent and 0.3 percent respectively.
