The Greek Culture Ministry recently launched a new app, offering Acropolis visitors the opportunity to experience the site in its prime through augmented and virtual reality. Named Cosmote Chronos, the new app has been created in cooperation with mobile network operator Cosmote. and with the support of the Acropolis Museum. The app uses cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence and a 5G network, to create digital representations of the Parthenon and other buildings of the Acropolis just as they appeared during the 5th century BC. In addition to providing an immersive experience of the Acropolis, the Cosmote Chronos app also serves as a digital aid for touring the site and a scientifically reliable educational tool for schools and academic communities. All app users can tour the interiors of the monuments in life-size, while those accessing a 5G network can also get real-time answers to more than 10,000 questions by Cleo, the app’s digital assistant-guide. The Cosmote Chronos app is available for free on Google Play and the Apple Store in Greek and English. It works on the 4G and 5G networks of all mobile providers in Greece and abroad, as well as on Wi-Fi. Visitors without a 5G network can still access automated guided tours provided in the app. The app also offers the possibility of group tours for up to five people. The Cosmote Chronos App in action. The launch of the app follows the Culture Ministry’s initiative to provide free Wi-Fi in the 25 most important archaeological sites and museums in the country in collaboration with Cosmote. Thanks to this innovative technology, visitors to the Acropolis can now enjoy a unique and educational experience that brings Greece’s cultural heritage to life.
