Photo source: Visit Greece British online newspaper The Independent has listed the city of Athens in Greece as one of the top 10 global destinations for vacations in September. According to editor Chris Wilson, who compiled the list, September is a month that offers “great weather without the intense heat of summer, fewer crowds, and more affordable deals.” The Greek capital was praised by Wilson for its mild, warm weather in September, boasting an average temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and nine hours of sunshine per day. “This makes it easier for tourists to walk to and from historical sites such as the Acropolis, Parthenon, and the Ancient Agora, compared to the height of summer,” he notes. Moreover, Wilson points out that September is an excellent time to learn about Athens’ rich history, as there are fewer crowds. Meanwhile, the city’s restaurants are much easier to book, giving travelers the chance to enjoy Greek cuisine. He also lists the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Gardens, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center are among the must-visit attractions. Additionally, the article highlights the southeastern suburbs of Glyfada and Vouliagmeni as ideal nearby locations for beach lovers. Vouliagmeni, Athens, Attica.
