Elitour also announced the creation of the first IVF cluster aimed at promoting health tourism options offered in Greece during a special event in Athens, attended by field specialists on the initiative of Elitour President and Attica Region Governor George Patoulis. The aim of the new cluster is to bring together leaders in IVF who will share knowledge and experience, exchange ideas and collaborate on innovative solutions that will benefit both the country and IVF patients worldwide. Greece has been growing in popularity as a destination offering individuals or couples IVF treatments. Experts attribute the rise to Greece’s advanced medical facilities, favorable legal framework for assisted reproductive technologies (ART), including IVF, affordability of such treatments, highly qualified medical professionals and donor availability. Earlier this month, Yannis Tountas, medical doctor, professor of social and preventive medicine at the University of Athens, said the ministries of health, tourism and development were preparing a new bill in collaboration with the Attica Region that will pave the way for the operation of health ministry-certified clinics that will provide specialized services at large tourist resorts. The bill also foresees the creation of a medical visa as well as a series of incentives for local and regional governments that will include silver tourism products run by local DMOs.
