Two English-language Theater Plays Showing in Athens

Theater enthusiasts and culture lovers visiting Athens have a unique opportunity to experience two English-language theatrical performances that offer foreign visitors an original approach to Greek culture and a fresh perspective on Greece’s rich heritage.

This production synthesizes extracts from renowned Greek literary and theatrical works, including Homer’s “Odyssey,” Aristophanes’ “The Assemblywomen” and “Pluto,” Euripides’ “Medea,” Aeschylus’ “Prometheus Bound,” and Sophocles’ “Antigone.”

Produced by Koilon Productions, a Greek theater company based in Athens, “Medea and Other Friends I Made in Athens” takes place at the foot of the iconic Acropolis, providing a stunning backdrop for the performances.

Women of Passion, Women of Greece

The second theatrical performance, titled “Women of Passion, Women of Greece“, directed by Tatiana Lygari, will be showcased at the Train of Rouf venue in Athens from May 27 to July 29, following a successful tour across European countries, Australia, and India.

This English-language show draws inspiration from the legendary figures of Medea, Maria Callas, and Melina Mercouri, who embark on an enchanting journey aboard a 1950s train, seamlessly intertwining ancient and contemporary Greece.

Medea, driven by tragic love; Maria Callas, the celebrated opera diva; and Melina Mercouri, the beloved Greek actress, singer, and politician symbolize the passion for life, love, creation, and freedom. Their stories bring history, culture, art, and the power of the human soul to life, leaving a lasting impact on viewers.
