The Greek island of Corfu in the Ionian has been chosen as the backdrop for the upcoming film “The Return“, featuring acclaimed actors Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche. Directed by Uberto Pasolini, the movie delves into the timeless tale of Odysseus’ journey home, marking the first international production centered on the Odyssey in several decades. Renowned actor Ralph Fiennes takes on the iconic role of Odysseus, while Juliette Binoche breathes life into the character of Penelope. Assisting with the production are the Ionian Islands Film Office of the Ionian Islands Region, the Municipalities of North Corfu and Central Corfu, and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu. Collaborators, technicians, and supporting actors from Corfu are actively participating in the filming process. The Greek production company Heretic, whose past achievements include winning a Palme d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, has taken on the responsibility of co-producing “The Return.” The shooting in Corfu is expected to wrap up by the end of the month with the film crew making the most of the island’s landscapes and cultural heritage. The movie aims to bring the ancient epic to life while infusing it with a contemporary perspective, allowing audiences to embark on a captivating cinematic journey.
