Photo source: GNTO. A group of German tour operators recently embarked on a familiarization trip to Thessaly and discovered the region’s untapped potential. The trip was organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) German branch in collaboration with the newly-established Marabu Airlines and the Thessaly Region, with the aim of showcasing the appealing and diverse tourist offerings of Thessaly. The region offered a wide range of activities, including cycling, hiking, archery, canoeing, and water cycling. In addition, historic landmarks such as the Monastery of Panagia Pelekiti, the Karamanolis Shelter of Agrafa, and the thermal baths of Smokovo added to the allure. The group also made a stop at the awe-inspiring rocks of Meteora, where they explored the Monastery of Varlaam and indulged in local gastronomy, complemented by wine tasting. The tour concluded with visits to traditional villages in Pelion, where the guests experienced the authentic ambiance and crafts of the region. In addition to sightseeing, the tour operators engaged in B2B meetings with local tourism entrepreneurs, hotels, and travel agencies. Regional Governor Konstantinos Agorastos welcomed the guests and shared insights into Thessaly’s future plans for tourism promotion and development. As the German tour operators bid farewell to Thessaly, they departed with a deep appreciation for the region’s untapped potential. The trip highlighted Thessaly as a captivating destination, offering unique experiences and creating opportunities for fruitful collaborations with the German travel industry in the future.
