Alexandros Thanos Steps in as SETE’s New Approved Advisor

Alexandros Thanos, formerly Central Macedonia’s regional governor for tourism, steps in as approved advisor for the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), which recently changed leadership.

Thanos assumes responsibilities starting Thursday, June 15.

“We are happy to welcome Alexandros Thanos to the position of approved advisor of SETE. Alexandros strengthens the SETE team in a very critical area for the future of tourism: cooperation with local government,” said the confederation’s new president, Yiannis Paraschis, appointed earlier this month.

“With Alexandros by our side and the undivided support of the SETE board of directors and its executives, our goal is to further strengthen SETE’s footprint in Greek entrepreneurship and society, highlighting the prominent role of the tourism sector in the development and competitiveness of Greece,” Paraschis added.

Among others, Thanos has served an appointed counsel for the Region of Central Macedonia covering education, development, environment, and European programs (2011-2016). He also served as Central Macedonia Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism and Culture (2016-2019), head of tourism for the Central Macedonia Region (2019-2021), and Central Macedonia Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism in 2022 until now.

Thanos is a graduate of the theology department, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, holds a Master’s Degree in Sociology, is a business administration graduate of the University of Macedonia, and also holds an MBA in business administration from Kingston University, with a major in strategic development of companies.

Commenting via his social media Thanos thanked Central Macedonia Regional Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas for trusting him, adding that his new role at SETE marks the end of a 13-year career in local government.

“The path of giving to the public is truly uncharted, with many difficulties and disappointments, but fueled by the joy of giving, by the feelings that encourage you to innovate, go beyond the obvious, become an agent of change for the future of the destination you love. This path is not lonely, it creates fellow travelers, groups and companies that write and rewrite the stories,” he said.

Replacing Thanos as Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism of the Central Macedonia Region is Christina Goula, Thessaloniki regional counsel and a graduate of the School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
